Nomad Lounge Chair

The Nomad lounge chair steps outside the boundaries of conventional furniture design, conceived as a transformative, space-saving object that bridges traditional heritage and modern living.

Form & Concept

Composed of just two solid wood pieces that seamlessly interlock to form an ergonomic seat, the chair rejects the bulk of traditional lounge seating.

Its ingenious, hardware-free assembly is directly inspired by the historic prestige chairs used by nomadic cultures in Africa, which were engineered to be dismantled effortlessly, packed onto camels, and reassembled at each new destination. By translating this ancient mobility into the modern home, the design becomes a brilliant study in functional efficiency.

Artistry & Illusion

The work is a celebration of master craftsmanship, showcasing a delicate balance between historical utility and contemporary minimalism. In place of traditional hand-carved tribal patterns, the rich wood features clean, deep vertical grooves.

This rhythmic texture serves a dual purpose: it highlights the natural, tactile grain of the timber while creating an elegant vertical illusion.

When the chair is mounted on a wall, these continuous lines draw the eye upward, visually elevating the height of the ceiling and infusing the room with organic warmth.

An Active Object

The Nomad lounge chair subverts the static nature of home furniture, transitioning effortlessly between utility and art. When not in use, the pieces disassemble flat to hang on the wall, saving precious floor space and transforming into a striking architectural relief.

The chair is no longer merely a place to sit, but a functional sculpture that celebrates movement, heritage, and the smart, artistic utilization of contemporary living spaces.
